Papua New Guinea Korofeigu
Located in the mountainous and moist cultivation area in the Bene Bene Valley in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea, this washed coffee is produced by the Korofeigu Cooperative Society, comprised of 97 producers. Originating in 1945, 13 teenagers from the Korofeigu and other surrounding areas were selected to be sent for a newly created school for training in coffee production. Since then, coffee has emerged as the most important agricultural crop in Papua New Guinea, directly or indirectly providing the major source of income for a third of the country’s population.
NGHCE (New Guinea Highlands Coffee Exports) has recently begun a program to assist farmers in obtaining their Organic certification. This coffee is a product of this initiative, which also provides extensive work on HIV/AIDS prevention, financial management, gender equality awareness, coffee husbandry and certification standards and procedures.
Sourced by Interamerican Coffee Importers. Whole bean.
To control freshness, we ship out orders every Tuesday and Wednesday. Please order by Sunday to make the weekly cutoff.
